新托福漫谈之五: iBT Toefl 阅读

| 竟成托福学院校长 VICTOR HU 现在我们再来谈一谈新托福的最后一部分内容----阅读。所幸的是，阅读是新托福中变化最小的一部分。我们过去培训阅读的材料和方法仍然有效。主要变化是增加了二种新题型。 新托福阅读的整体变化如下： 1. iBT的阅读量减少至三篇文章，第一篇文章规定二十分钟内做完。后两篇共分配四十分钟。 2. 每篇文章的长度大幅度增长，每篇大约六百到七百字，大约比原来多百分之五十的篇幅。总共有三十九个问题。 iBT 阅读中的新题型： 1. 句子解释题：选择某个选项来正确表达文章某句话（通常是一个较长的复杂句）的主要意思。例如： Passage: Were Earth to be juxtaposed with the Great Red Spot, our planet would be dwarfed in comparison, with a diameter less than half that of the Great Red Spot。。。。。。 Question: Which of the sentences below best expresses the essential information in the highlighted sentence in the passage? Incorrect choices change the meaning in important ways or leave out essential information. Ο The density of the Great Red Spot is much higher than that of the Earth. Ο If the diameter of the Great Red Spot were doubled, it would equal that of the Earth. Ο By placing the Earth next to the Great Red Spot, one could see that the Earth has a much smaller diameter. Ο Because the Earth is close to the Great Red Spot, Earth is influenced by its huge size. 通过分析理解，第三项正确地表达了那句话的意思。
2. 多项选择题：要求对文章中的信息分类，填表或完成一个总结。而且这种题目的分值通常是二到四分，所以相当重要。限于篇幅我们略去文章，只展示问题，给大家一个直观的感觉 例1： Directions: Select the appropriate phrases from the answer choices and match them to the type of organism to which they relate. Two of the answer choices will NOT be used.This is worth 4 points. Drag your answer choices to the spaces where they belong. To remove an answer choice, click on it. To review the passage, click on View Text. Answer Choices Opportunists Vary frequently amount of energy they spend in body maintenance Have mechanisms for protecting themselves from predation Succeed in locations where other organisms have been removed Have relatively short life span Competitors Invest energy in the growth of large, strong structures Have populations that are unstable in response to climate condition Can rarely find suitable soil for reproduction 例2： Directions: An introductory sentence or a brief summary of the passage is provided below. Complete the summary by selecting the THREE answer choices that express the most important ideas in the passage. Some sentences do not belong in the summary because they express ideas that are not presented in the passage or are minor ideas in the passage. This question is worth 2 points. This passage discusses Ben and Jerry’s unconventional company. Answer Choices (choose 3 to complete the chart): ⑴ They each had a personal commitment to social causes. ⑵ They began their business with little background and investment. ⑶ They believed strongly in producing a very high-quality product. ⑷ They had a salary structure that limits the salaries of high-level executives. ⑸ They set aside a noteworthy portion of their profits for social causes. ⑹ They borrowed several thousand dollars from friends to star their business. 总而言之，新托福阅读的变化很小，只要加强对以上两种新题型的培训，就一定能够须利地攻克它。 另外，我们还应该注意到在新托福口语和写作的综合型题目也增加了阅读部分（谈见漫谈之二和之三），因此阅读的重要性是不言而喻的。 |
